With Earth Day celebrated around the world April 22, there are several local events planned throughout the weekend in the Parry Sound-Muskoka area to mark the occasion.
Here are some eco-friendly things you can get involved in:
Free compost in Bracebridge
The Town of Bracebridge will be offering free compost in honour of Earth Day, in partnership with the District Municipality of Muskoka, on Monday, April 22 in Gostick Park, 51 Sellens Ave. from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Bring a container and a shovel to pick up a supply. One visit per vehicle, with loading time of 15 minutes. For details, click here.
Activities at the Farmers’ Market in North Bay
Celebrate Earth Day at the North Bay Farmers’ Market Saturday, April 20 with the kids by having a couple different activities. Join the ‘April Showers Bring May Flowers’ seed planting or the ‘Earth Search through the Dirt’ activity. Activities run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 222 McIntyre St. W. For more details, click here.
Earth Day Planet Protectors
Join Bracebridge Library staff at Memorial Park for their first ever Earth Day event, and become a Planet Protector. Celebrate with live entertainment by children’s performer Wilderness Betty, nature games, recycled crafts, sustainable snacks, and more. Please bring your reusable water bottle. The fun happens Saturday, April 20 from 1 to 3 p.m. For more details, click here.
Rendezvous with the Biosphere
Come celebrate Earth Day Monday, April 22 with the Georgian Bay Biosphere and Georgian Bay Township. Held outdoors at Rendezvous Park in Honey Harbour, this drop-in event at 3 p.m. is free to attend and promises an afternoon of fun and learning. For more information, click here.
Earth Day in Seguin
Take part in a variety of Earth Day activities at the Humphrey Barn and Nature Trails in Seguin Township Saturday, April 20 from 10 a.m. to noon. There will be crafts with materials from Wave Fibre Mill, guided trail walk and cleanup, hot beverages, build a lattice planter donated by Home Depot, and free white spruce seedlings, wildflower or native grass seeds. Earth Day family fun in Parry Sound
Learn the teachings of Mother Earth and much more with the Town of Parry Sound and partners. Activities include seed planting, rock painting, sensory bins, and more. Kids will get messy, so dress for the mess. Event happens at the Bobby Orr Community Centre Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. until noon. Register ahead of time. For more details, click here.
Clean up Muskoka Lakes
On Monday April 22, the Township of Muskoka Lakes is inviting the community to participate in one of two clean up events: 10 a.m. – ,eet at Hanna Park in Port Carling; or at 1 p.m. – meet at the Precambrian Shield Parking Lot in Bala. If you can’t make it, grab a clean up kit to gather trash from your surrounding area. Kits include: gloves, recycling bags and specially marked garbage bags. Heat, eat, go, grow workshop
Parry Sound Muskoka Green Party is excited to present four workshops exploring local solutions to reduce our carbon footprint. Join us for Heat, Eat, Go, Grow Saturday, April 20 at the Active Living Centre in Huntsville from 1 to 4 p.m. Free admission.
